FLORENCE, Ala. (October 9, 2026) – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball program announced the UNA Fall Invitational, scheduled for this Saturday, has been canceled due to weather heading into Florence this weekend.

North Alabama's other event scheduled for this weekend, the East Bid AVCA Qualifier, was also canceled this week due to expected weather.

In lieu of these cancelations, North Alabama has added another AVCA Qualifier to the schedule set for next weekend. A pair from UNA, junior Paige Griner and sophomore Mabrey Whitehead, will travel to Wilmington, N.C. from Oct. 16-17 for the AVCA East Bid Tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington and Capt'n Bill's.

This tournament consists of a 16-pair bid division played over two consecutive days, and all matches are best of three sets. Pool play will be used to seed the 16-pair bracket that is played to place. Three bids are awarded per AVCA Bid Qualifier for the Beach Pairs National Championship from Nov. 6-8 in Huntsville, Ala.

The Lions will now be off this weekend and are set for Alumni Weekend next Saturday, Oct. 17 in Florence, Ala. at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts and the AVCA East Bid Tournament from Oct. 16-17 in Wilmington, N.C.
