FLORENCE, Ala. (November 4, 2026) – The University of North Alabama Department of Athletics totaled over 1,000 hours of civic engagement during Civic Engagement Day on Tuesday, as student-athletes, coaches and administrators contributed to 16 projects in the community.
The groups UNA served Tuesday include local elementary schools, churches and various non-profit organizations.
In addition, the UNA athletic department staff wore purple and met at Bank Independent Stadium before dispersing into the community for "Purple Swarm" day. Members of the UNA staff, including coaches and administration, visited over 150 local businesses and corporate partners and presented them with a pennant as a token of appreciation.
"Our student-athletes understand that wearing the UNA logo comes with a responsibility to serve others," said Anna Hovater, UNA Associate Athletic Director for Governance and Student-Athlete Experience. "Civic Engagement Day allows them to step into the community, build relationships and give back to the people who support UNA Athletics every day. It also provides an opportunity to educate and empower them as voters, reinforcing the importance of having their voices heard and being engaged members of their communities. We are grateful to the many community partners who allow our student-athletes to serve their organizations."
