Women’s Basketball falls in 73-56 road bout at EKU

Ceppellotti and Alvarado tally double figures in loss to Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky. (February 14, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team dropped a tough 73-56 road battle Saturday afternoon against Atlantic Sun Conference leader EKU in Richmond, Ky.

North Alabama (13-12, 8-6 ASUN) lost for just the third time in the last 11 games with a tough matchup against a team with a three-game lead in the ASUN standings.

The Colonels (22-5, 13-1 ASUN) took a competitive first quarter lead and found more cushion in the second quarter. UNA outscored EKU in the second half, but the Colonels retained the lead.

Offensively, North Alabama was led by the duo of sophomore Sofia Ceppellotti and senior Alexsandra Alvarado. Both tallied 14 points and registered a team-leading five rebounds. Alvarado secured her 16th double-digit scoring outing while Ceppellotti totaled her 12th.

Freshman Gabby Jackson totaled a team-high four assists, and Alvarado added three steals on the defensive side. Ceppellotti and junior Katie Criswell also were effective on defense with two steals on the day. Senior India Howard registered the lone block for the Lions.

UNA looks on to its final regular-season road game on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Bellarmine. Tipoff from Louisville is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.

After Bellarmine, the Lions will close the regular season with three home matchups — Feb. 21 vs. Lipscomb, Feb. 25 vs. Central Arkansas and Feb. 28 vs. West Georgia.
