Men’s Tennis set for three duals at home starting Friday

Lions host weekend bouts vs. EKU, Mississippi Valley State and Troy

FLORENCE, Ala. (February 26, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team continues its home slate from the UNA Tennis Courts with three duals vs. EKU, Mississippi Valley State and Troy on Feb. 27 and 28.

The Lions open the weekend vs. EKU on Friday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. UNA begins Saturday, Feb. 28 vs. Mississippi Valley State at 10 a.m. before closing the day vs. Troy at 1 p.m. All three matches will have live stats and live-streaming options that will be available for viewing closer to each dual's start time.

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
North Alabama continued its home dominance from the UNA Tennis Courts in its last outing. The Lions had a 2-0 weekend with a 7-0 sweep over Austin Peay on Feb. 20 and 6-1 victory over Tennessee State on Feb. 21. UNA tallied a third-straight victory over the Governors while marking the 11th-straight win over an ASUN opponent in the regular season. UNA's last loss vs. an ASUN opponent during the regular season dates back to April 6, 2024 at Lipscomb. The victory against the Tigers extended its win streak at home to 19 duals with the last loss coming vs. UAB on Jan. 29, 2024. North Alabama is winning singles at 53.2 percent rate and doubles at a 52 percent rate. All seven Lions who have competed this season have at least three singles victories and two doubles wins.

SCOUTING EKU: The Colonels sport an 8-9 record entering the weekend. Last time out, EKU defeated both Furman and Chatanooga on Feb. 21 with a 4-0 win over the Paladins and 4-1 triumph over the Mocs. Four EKU players have five singles win led by Fernando Bulnes with a 7-4 record. Ilie Cazac (six wins), Joao Barreto (5) and Nuno Pinheiro (5) round out the singles wins tally leaders. Bulnes leads in the doubles with seven wins, followed by six from Pinheiro and five from Adrian Contreras. Andy Cohen leads the Colonels in his fourth season.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama leads the series against EKU, 3-0. The Lions claimed a 6-1 road win in the last meeting on April 4, 2025 from Richmond, Ky.

SCOUTING MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE: Mississippi Valley State goes for its first win in the second outing of the 2026 season. Riley Murry serves as the head coach of the Delta Devils.

SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama leads the series against Mississippi Valley State, 7-0. The Lions defeated the Delta Devils, 4-1, in the last meeting on April 8, 2025 in Florence, Ala.

SCOUTING TROY: Troy has an 8-4 record on the season. Their last outing resulted in a 4-3 home win vs. South Carolina State on Feb. 19. The Trojans are solid in both singles and doubles with a 53.6 percent win rate in doubles and 52.3 percent rate in singles. Hiiro Sakamoto leads Troy in singles wins with an 11-4 record. Thiago Drozdowski also sports double-digit wins in singles with a 10-4 record. Drozdowski has the team lead in doubles wins with 10. The Trojans' head coach is Rolando Vargas in his eighth season.

SERIES HISTORY: The Lions and Trojans meet for the 28th time in the series. Troy leads the series, 15-12, but North Alabama has claimed the previous two duals in the series. UNA defeated the Trojans on the road, 4-1, on Feb. 1, 2025.
