JACKSON, Miss. (February 5, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team will take on Jackson State and Lamar in a two-match weekend in Mississippi from Feb. 6-7.
The Lions looks to claim its first win of the season in action vs. the Tigers and Cardinals. UNA opens against Jackson State on Friday, Feb. 6 before facing the Cardinals on Saturday, Feb. 7. North Alabama was also scheduled to face Mississippi Valley State on Feb. 6, but the match was postponed to a later date.
The Jackson State dual will be played at the JSU Tennis Center with first serve at 2 p.m. The Lions will have their neutral-site bout vs. Lamar at the Hall's Ferry Road Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama did battle against Samford last time out, falling 4-3 in a competitive road bout. UNA rallied from a point down to take three singles victories, but the Bulldogs responded with three singles win to take the dual. Senior Lachlan Brain, junior Izan Orgiles and sophomore Samu Dominguez all picked up their first singles wins of the season. Brain and Orgiles now lead the team with two total victories (one singles, one doubles).
SCOUTING JACKSON STATE: The Tigers will look for their first win of the season against the Lions, sporting a 0-3 record. Jackson State finished third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 9-11 record in Spring 2025 with a 4-2 conference record. JSU finished as runner ups behind Alabama State in the SWAC Championship. The Tigers have four players this season with a doubles win, led by two from Gokalp Ayar and Fabrizio Fallas. Chen Hung-Yu has the team's lone singles win of the season. The head coach for Jackson State is Stas Smirnov.
SERIES HISTORY: North Alabama has a 3-0 record against Jackson State. This will be the first meeting between UNA and Lamar.
SCOUTING LAMAR: The Cardinals have a 1-6 record on the season. Last time out, Lamar claimed their first season win in a 4-3 victory over Lubbock Christian on Feb. 1. The Cardinals went 14-13 in Spring 2025 with a 1-4 record in the Southland Conference. Rintaro Shukuda is the reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week after picking up two singles and one doubles victories. Lamar's head coach is Scott Shankles.
