Women’s Tennis drops ASUN semifinal bout to North Florida

Lions’ postseason concludes against undefeated Ospreys

FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 17, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team fell to top-seeded and No. 52 North Florida in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament semifinal round on Friday, dropping a 4-0 bout in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Ospreys, which remain perfect with a 24-0 record, advanced to the ASUN Tournament Final. They will face No. 3 FGCU on Saturday, April 18 at noon.

Following a 4-1 quarterfinal victory yesterday against Austin Peay, the Lions battled the Ospreys with a trip to the finals on the line. North Florida took advantage first in the bout, taking two courts in doubles for the one-point lead.

The Ospreys' Laurie Barendse and Isabel Oliviera defeated junior Louise Booker and senior Eeva Ristola from court one, 6-1. Court three was also won by North Florida, with Gabby Goyins and Jasmin Makela defeating freshmen Farah Asaad and Sammie Schouten, 6-1. Junior Emma Ansorge and Mathilde Delaney was tied with Aryana Bartlett and Anslee Long from court two, 5-5, prior to doubles concluding.

North Florida won three singles bouts to claim the dual. UNF's Barendse defeated Ristola from court one in a 6-2, 6-3 result. Goyins defeated Booker from court five, 6-2, 6-1, for the third Ospreys point. Anslee Long clinched the dual after defeating Senem Ocal from court six, 6-4, 6-4.

Despite the result, courts two, three and four were competitive bouts. Ansorge took the first set from Isabel Oliviera with a 6-4 score from court two. Delaney dropped her first set on court three but was tied with Aryana Bartlett 5-5 in the second frame. Schouten was close to defeating May Fadida with a 6-3, 4-4 score from court four.

North Alabama concludes the 2026 campaign with 15 wins — tied for the second-most in Division I program history. UNA also tied a program record with 11-straight wins over the span of a month, marking the second-straight season achieving the feat. The season was highlighted by several first-time victories, including Arkansas State, Louisiana, Belmont and Milwaukee. The Lions additionally took home four postseason honors and one ASUN Tournament victory.
