Women’s Tennis lands fifth seed in ASUN Tournament

Lions open championship April 16 against fourth-seed Austin Peay

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 9, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's tennis team was announced as the fifth seed in the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Tennis Championships by the league office Thursday afternoon.

The Lions are set for the postseason conference tournament with UNA heading to Fort Myers, Fla. on the campus of FGCU. North Alabama opens the tournament in the quarterfinal round Thursday, April 16 against the fourth-seeded Austin Peay Governors at 11 a.m. CT.

North Alabama enters the championships looking to contend for the title after falling short in the 2025 edition. The Lions rolled to the finals after a 4-3 quarterfinal win against Austin Peay and a 4-1 semifinal triumph over hosts North Florida. UNA fell in the final to Stetson in a 4-2 result.

North Alabama finished the 2026 regular season with a 14-5 record, marking the second time in two seasons entering the tournament with five or less losses. The Lions entered the 2025 postseason with just four defeats on the campaign.

UNA had a strong run from Feb. 6 – March 18, winning 11-straight duals to tie a program record. It marked the second-straight season the Lions achieved the feat, doing so from Feb. 22 – March 28, 2025.

The season was highlighted by several first-time victories, including Arkansas State, Louisiana, Belmont and Milwaukee. The team also achieved the second all-time win over Murray State in series history.

UNA won 70.2 percent of singles bouts as a team and 62.2 percent in doubles. Each player had at three singles wins with five players totaling six or more wins. Each Lion additionally had one doubles win with six tallying six or more.

Junior Emma Ansorge led the team with a 14-2 singles record. Freshman Sammie Schouten had a strong debut campaign in singles, ranking second in wins with a 12-5 singles record. Junior Mathilde Delaney had a solid singles campaign ranking third on the team with a 11-5 record.

Additional singles win totals included nine from senior Eeva Ristola (9-2 overall), six from junior Louise Booker (6-4), four from senior Senem Ocal (4-5) and three from freshman Farah Asaad (3-3).

Ansorge and Delaney were the leaders in doubles with a 13-2 record. Asaad was a doubles specialist with a 9-6 record, followed by Ristola at 8-7. Schouten and Booker had six doubles wins, and Ocal tallied one doubles win on the campaign.
