The women's golf program at the University of North Alabama began in the Fall of 2018 under the direction of Neil Self as members of the ASUN Conference and the NCAA Division I.

With six players on the roster, the Lions played in three Fall tournaments and another four in the Spring, showing steady improvement along the way. The top finish in that initial campaign was eighth in a 13-team field at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in St. Augustine, Fla.

Members of that initial Lion team (pictured at the top of the page) were Kaitlyn Adams, Megan Fusak, Emily Lankford, Morgan Mayfield, Hannah Pope, Taryn Simmons and Annalee Stephens.

In the Fall of 2019, the Lions continued to improve as a team and individually in three tournament outings. A school-best, three round 937 total earned the Lions a ninth place finish in a 16-team field at the Terrier Intercollegiate to close out the Fall.

The Lions would only have the opportunity to play in one tournament in a shortened Spring 2020 season, but UNA made the most of it with a solid 30th place finish in a 53-team field at the Kiawah Island Classic. In the first spring season of full Division I status in Spring 2023, the Lions recorded a sixth place finish at the ASUN Championship to tie the 2021 season for the program's best finish in a postseason tournament. Jahnavi Prakhya finished seventh in that tournament for the best individual showing by Lion in any ASUN Championship.

In 2022, Prakhya was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team for the first postseason honor in program history. In 2024, she was voted to the all-conference third team, marking the program's first all-conference honor. Prakhya was the first medalist for the program on March 15, 2022, co-winning the Bobby Nichols Invitational. Jackie Klemm became the program's second all-time medalist on March 7, 2023, co-winning the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate.

Another point of pride came for the program on May 2, 2024, as the UNA women's golf team became the first program in school history to record a collective 4.0 semester GPA. The Lions have also succeeded tremendously in the community, winning the Bank Independent Community Engagement Award in both 2024 and 2025. Jahnavi Prakhya was also the individual winner of this award in both 2024 and 2025. The Lions also ranked fourth among all women's golf programs in community service hours according to the 2025 Helper Helper final standings.
