UNA Lions Football Locker Room
Since the rebirth of football at the University of North Alabama in 1949, UNA has been one of the most consistently successful programs in the state of Alabama and on a regional and national level. Among the football rich traditions in the state of Alabama, North Alabama's ranks near the top. The Lions now compete at the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) level in one of the premiere football conferences in the nation.
•  In 1968,  UNA became the first predominantly white college in the state of Alabama to play an African American player in a collegiate football game.
•  In 1995, North Alabama became the first school in the history of NCAA scholarship football to win three consecutive football national titles.UNA was also the first collegiate football program to win 40 games in three years, going 41-1 from 1993-95.
•  The Lions have made 21 NCAA post-season appearances and competed in 53 NCAA playoff games, winning 10 regional titles and making five appearances in the national championship game.
•  UNA has had 17 former Lions drafted into the National Football League, with another 55 signing free agent contracts. That list includes an NFL Rookie of the Year, an NFL Most Valuable Player and five former Lions who have played in the Super Bowl.
