Former University of North Alabama All-Gulf South Conference linebacker Gabe Poe is in his seventh season as an assistant coach with the Lions and will work with linebackers again in 2021. He also serves as director of UNA's summer football camps.

In 2018, Poe helped lead the Lions to a 7-3 record in the program's first season of Division I FCS competition.

In 2016, UNA's defense was third in the nation in scoring defense (14.5), fourth in pass interceptions (23) and second in turnovers gained (36). That unit included All-Gulf South Conference linebackers Darius Wright and Eddrick Harris. Those efforts helped lead the Lions to an 11-2 record, a fourth straight Gulf South Conference Championship and a finish as the NCAA Division II National runner-up.

Poe was UNA's defensive line coach in 2015 and directed a unit that included All-Gulf South Conference performer Feddie Reed.
Poe served as a graduate assistant linebackers coach in 2014.

A standout on UNA's 2013 defensive unit, Poe led the team with 128 tackles, including 77 solo stops. He recorded 10 tackles for loss of 21 yards, one quarterback sack for seven yards, picked off three passes and returned them 98 yards and recovered one fumble. He helped lead UNA to a 10-3 record, a share of the Gulf South Conference Championship and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Division II Playoffs.

A native of Pheba, Miss., Poe played linebacker and running back at West Oktibbeha High School and also lettered in baseball and basketball. He finished in the top three in his class academically.

He then played at East Mississippi Community College under head coach Buddy Stephens in 2009, after being redshirted as a freshman. He helped lead the team to a North Division Championship and a state championship in 2009.

Poe then played at University of West Alabama under Bobby Wallace in 2010 and Will Hall in 2011. A two-year starter, he was named Academic All-GSC in 2011 and earned first-team All-GSC honors as well. He was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society and graduated from West Alabama in 2012.

He is married to the former Lindsey Robinson of Fairfield, Ala., and they have a daughter, Addison.
