With stops at six collegiate institutions on his resume, Kevin Wewers joined the University of North Alabama football staff as tight ends coach in December of 2022.
Wewers came to UNA after spending the 2022 season at Florida Atlantic (FAU) as an offensive analyst.
Wewers has previously worked on football staffs with Dearmon at Bethel, Kansas and Florida Atlantic.
A Scranton, Ark., native, he worked as a senior analyst for the Kansas Jayhawks during the 2020 season.
Prior to that, he served as associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Bethel during the 2019 season. In 2018 at Bethel, he was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Bethel won the 2018 Mid-South Conference Championship and went to the NAIA Playoffs, finishing the season at 10-1.
While on the defensive side of the ball, Wewers helped assemble one of the NAIA’s top defenses on the way to the program’s first undefeated regular season in school history. Three linebackers received All-Mid-South Conference honors.
In his one season as wide receivers coach at Ouachita Baptist, the Tigers went 9-3 and won the Great American Conference championship. Two rof his eceivers, Drew Harris and Allie Freeman, received All-GAC honors.
Wewers began his collegiate coaching career at Arkansas Tech from 2013-17, working with fullbacks and tight ends in 2013 and running backs from 2014-16. He mentored two All-GAC running backs in Brayden Stringer and Bryan Allen and helped the program to its first winning season in five years, including the first postseason appearance and win since 2009.
Wewers began his coaching career at Sabiaco Academy.
He holds three degrees from Arkansas Tech, a Bachelors Degree in Wildlife Science (2011), a Masters Degree in teaching (2013) and a Masters in Education Degree in Educational Leadership (2015).
