Mike King will work with the Lion kickers and punters for the 29th  straight year in 2020.  He has worked with the UNA kickers and punters under Bobby Wallace, Bill Hyde, Mark Hudspeth, Terry Bowden and now Chris Willis.

King is the owner and operator of Shoals Kicking Development, in which he conducts camps and gives private and group lessons around the Southeast. In all he has more than 35 years of coaching experience.  

During his time at UNA the Lions' kickers and punters have received All-Gulf South Conference recognition 15 times, with ten first-team selections. Kicker Travis Johnston earned All-Amercan honors in 2003 and Tom Schneider was an All-American pick in 2008. Punter Will Batson earned All-American honors in 2008 and 2009 and kicker Kevin Henke was an honorable mention All-America pick in 2016.

In 2019, UNA kicker/punter Joe Gurley was honored as second-team All-Big South Conference placed-kicker and third-team All-Big South punter by Phil Steele. Gurley also won three Big South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week awards. 

In 2012 UNA set a school-record for team punting average for a season at 41.9. The Lions also finished 12th in the nation in net punting at 37.56.

King graduated from Marion Institute in 1972 and the University of West Alabama in 1974. He received a Master's degree in Education from West Alabama and an Education Administration degree from Troy State and UNA. King lettered in football, baseball and tennis at the collegiate level.

He is married to Margaret McClure King. He has two daughters, Allison Tullos and Susan Rowe, and four grandchildren, Katherine and Vandy Tullos and Jackson and Malachi Rowe.
