Steadman Campbell enters his 17th season as an assistant coach at North Alabama in 2022 and will serve as the defensive coordinator for the Lions for a fifth straight year. Campbell previously served as UNA's offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017.

Campbell  has been a member of the UNA coaching staff under Mark Hudspeth, Terry Bowden, Bobby Wallace and Chris Willis and has helped the Lions to a 120-51 record that includes ten NCAA playoff appearances and six Gulf South Conference championships.

In his first season as defensive coordinator at UNA, Campbell helped lead the Lions through their first season of Division I FCS status and the team responded with a solid 7-3 record. The UNA defenders forced 17 turnovers in 10 games.

In 2019, the Lions finished fifth in the Big South Conference in both rushing defense and pass efficiency defense and the Lions were second in the league in interception return yards (159) and average yards per interception return (17.7). UNA safety D'Andre Hart ranked seventh among the leading tacklers in the Big South and earned all-conference honors.

In 2021, UNA's defense led the Big South Conference with 14 interceptions and defensive lineman Wallace Cowins, Jr., and defensive back K.J. Smith were both first-team all-conference honorees.

In 2016, in his first season as the UNA play-caller, Campbell's offensive unit averaged 36.1 points and 419.5 total yards per game in helping lead the Lions to an 11-2 record, a fourth straight Gulf South Conference Championship and a finish as the NCAA Division II National runner-up.

Among UNA's award winners in 2016 was senior quarterback Jacob Tucker, who finished third in the voting for the Harlon Hill Trophy as Division II National Player of the Year.

Cambell coached the Lion receivers in 2014-15 and previously worked with running backs. He also handled the duties as the Lions' recruiting coordinator from 2009-15.

UNA's passing game was formidable in his two seasons coaching receivers, averaging 279.2 yards per game in 2015 to spark an offense that scored 37.9 points per game.

The Lions were fourth nationally in pass completion percentage (66.9), sixth in team passing efficiency (162.02), tied for ninth in total first downs (300), 13th in red zone offense (88.5) 23rd in total offense (468.9) and 23rd in scoring offense (37.9).

Those numbers helped the Lions post a 9-3 record that included a share of a third straight Gulf South Conference Championships and an NCAA Division II Playoff berth.

Receivers Lee Mayhall and Dre Hall both earned All-Gulf South Conference honors.

In 2014 the Lions averaged 254 yards per game while scoring 35.9 points per outing. The Lions produced two All-GSC receivers in Delvon Carpenter and Mayhall.

Campbell worked with running backs in 2013 and the Lions averaged 214 rushing yards and 39.8 points per game. Running back Lamonte Thompson led the way, earning All-GSC honors. UNA averaged over 208 yards rushing per game in 2012.

In 2011 Campbell helped direct UNA to a 9-3 record and into the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Incredibly, the UNA running backs only lost one fumble the entire season, and it came in the season-opener. Running back Wes Holland was also an All-GSC selection for a second straight year.

In 2010 he helped lead UNA to a 9-4 record and a spot in the second round of the Division II playoffs, with Holland as an All-GSC selection.

In 2009 he helped lead UNA to an 11-2 record that included a GSC title and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Division II playoffs. UNA running backs Tim Hicks and Marcus Sims also both earned All-GSC honors.

In 2008 Campbell helped UNA to a 12-2 record and a spot in the semifinals of the Division II playoffs. As the receivers coach that season, Campbell directed one of the most talented corps in school history. Ed Gant and Rocky Coleman were All-Gulf South Conference selections and Gant and Bobby Williams signed free agent contracts with National Football League clubs.

In 2007 UNA had a 10-2 record and the Lions advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs.

In 2006 he helped lead UNA to an 11-1 record that included a Gulf South Conference championship and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Division II playoffs.

Campbell was a on-the-field defensive graduate assistant at the University of Alabama in 2005. He had previously worked as a video graduate assistant for the Crimson Tide prior to the 2005 season.

He lettered as a wide receiver/return man at the University of Arkansas in 2000 and 2001. As a sophomore with the Razorbacks in 2000, Steadman returned 16 punts for 103 yards.

A 2002 Arkansas graduate, Campbell earned a Marketing Management degree.

He is a graduate of Fayetteville (Arkansas) High School and his father, Louis, is 40-year veteran of collegiate coaching.

He is married to the former Tara Cooper and they have two daughters, Emmie Grace and Riley Kate.
