UNA MEN FALL 99-82 AT VALDOSTA STATE

VALDOSTA, Ga., – A 17-2 Valdosta State run over a four minute mark in the second half proved to be the difference in the game as the Blazers recorded a 99-82 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team on Saturday. The second straight Gulf South Conference loss gives UNA a 6-4 overall record with a 1-3 mark in league action.
 
The Lions led 68-67 after a jumper by Tavaras Tolliver with 6:08 remaining. UNA, however, missed its next eight shots from the floor while the Blazers connected on a trio of three-point baskets during the scoring run to build an 84-70 lead. A pair of free throws by VSU's Josh Lemons gave the home team the 14-point advantage with 4:05 remaining.
 
UNA got a basket by Jeff Hodge to stop the bleeding, but could never get within single digits the rest of the way. VSU shot 59.3 percent from the floor in the second half while the Lions were held to 13-of-37 (35.1 percent) shooting over the final 20 minutes of play.
 
The Blazers also used a 42-27 rebounding advantage to score 17 second-chance points. Five players reached double figures in scoring for Valdosta State, including a game-high 22-point showing by Beau Justice. With the win, VSU improves to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in GSC play.
 
Tolliver led UNA with 15 points and five assists on the day. Austin Timms added 14 points while Myrek Lee-Fowlkes tossed in 10 points for the Lions.
 
UNA will continue its GSC road swing at West Florida on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at the UWF Field House in Pensacola.
