LEE EDGES UNA WOMEN 75-73

CLEVELAND, Tenn., – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team came up on the short end of another close game Saturday, falling 75-73 at Lee. The third straight loss by two points or less leaves the Lions with a 4-18 overall record and a 3-14 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
 
The three straight road losses to West Georgia, Shorter and Lee have come by a combined five points. On Saturday, UNA led 71-70 in the final minute of play before the Flames closed strong. After regaining the lead on a basket by Erin Walsh with 26 seconds remaining, Lee got a turnover and added a free throw to take a 73-71 lead.
 
The Lions drew a foul but could not connect from the free throw line with 10 seconds to go. Following the second miss, the Flames grabbed the rebound and put the game out of reach with two more foul shots. A jumper by Jaclyn Heath accounted for the final score.
 
North Alabama led the entire first half, taking a 35-30 lead into the break. The Lions led by as many as 12 in the third quarter before Lee rallied. A basket by Alexus Patterson gave UNA a 43-35 lead with 6:50 remaining in the period.
 
The Flames used a 19-6 run to take their first lead of the game. A three-point basket by Haris Price put the home team ahead 54-53 at the 1:34 mark of the period. Lee led by as many as five points in the fourth quarter before UNA made one last push.
 
Two free throws and a basket by Heath cut the lead to 70-69 with just over a minute to play. After UNA got a defensive rebound, Katelyn Nunley gave North Alabama the one-point lead with 45 seconds to play.
 
For the game, UNA was 11-of-26 from the floor in each half for a 42.3 shooting percentage on the day. Five players reached double figures in scoring for the Lions with Heath and Janae Lyde getting 16 points each to lead the way. Nunley and Patterson added 13 points each while KeKe Gunter rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 10 points.
 
Price led Lee (16-6 overall, 13-4 GSC) with a game-high 20 points.
 
UNA will return home to play its next two GSC games. The Lions will host Mississippi College Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
