MEMPHIS, Tenn. –
Riley Sanderson got his 20
th career win and
Dylan Calhoun got eight hits in two games as the University of North Alabama swept a Gulf South Conference double-header from Christian Brothers, 6-4 and 15-2.
Sanderson, now 6-4 on the season, pitched eight complete innings to get the win in the opener as UNA rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to take the win. Calhoun had three hits in that win and then tied a school record with five in the nightcap to lead the Lions' 13-hit attack.
With the sweep, UNA is now 23-20 overall and 14-15 in the GSC. CBU falls to 9-34 overall and 1-28 in the GSC.
UNA took a lead in the first inning of the opener on a Calhoun single and a
Kevin Hall RBI-single. CBU countered with a run in the bottom of the first and two in the second for a 3-1 lead.
UNA tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth as
Heath Wood singled and
Taylor Hayes ripped a two-run homer. The Buccaneers reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the eighth but only set the stage for the Lions' ninth inning rally.
Kyle Hubbuch tied the game with a leadoff home run and the Lions eventually loaded the bases with a single and two intentional walks. With two outs, Wood drew a walk to force in
Peyton Sockwell and
Chris Blakey scored the final run on a wild pitch.
Blake Talley pitched a scoreless ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season.
UNA took charge of the nightcap with a run in the first, another in the third, seven in the fourth and three in the seventh for a 15-0 lead. CBU scored its only two runs on the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Devan Traglia (4-3) got his second straight win in a starting role for the Lions, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings.
Austin Carpenter pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
Calhoun led the way for UNA, going 5-for-5 with five runs scored and three runs batted in. He not only tied the school record for hits in a game with five, also tied the record for runs scored in a game with five. Calhoun also previously had five hits against Stillman in 2015.
Hubbuch had his second home run of the day and his 12
th of the season in game two, while driving in four runs.
Kevin Hall had three RBI.
The Lions and Buccaneers play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
