CHARGERS SHOOT DOWN LIONS 105-88

HUNTSVILLE – UAH connected on 19 three-point attempts Monday evening in a 105-88 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team. After winning four straight, the Lions have now dropped two in a row to fall to 11-9 overall and 6-8 in Gulf South Conference play.

For the game, the Chargers shot a blistering 66.1 percent from the floor, including a 19-of-33 (57.6 percent) showing from beyond the arc. Three-pointers came often, and at critical times for the Chargers, who led throughout the game.

UNA trailed by double digits several times on the night, each time making a run to get back within striking distance. Each time the Lions would get close, however, UAH answered from long range.

North Alabama trailed 51-38 at the break, and was down by 16 after a try by the Chargers in the opening minute of the second half. UNA chipped away at the lead, getting within four at 59-55 on a jumper by Austin Timms with 14:24 remaining.

Michael Gilmore immediately answered for the home team with a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to push the lead to seven.

UNA trailed 66-59 at the 12-minute mark before using an 11-4 run to tie the game at 70-70. Dakota Holtzclaw knotted the game with a try with 8:34 remaining. After getting a defensive stop, the Lions had a chance to take their first lead of the game. North Alabama, however, missed a shot from the top of the key and the Chargers got another three-pointer by Kip Owens to start a 15-4 run to run the lead back to double figures at 85-74.

The Lions made one last push, cutting the deficit to 87-84 with 3:43 to play on a basket by DeAndre McKinnie. UAH again answered from long range with a try by Justin Ward. UAH made three-pointers on its next three possessions while the Lions went cold from the floor. UNA went the final 3:18 without a field goal.

The loss spoiled a career night for Timms, who finished with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds. Jeff Hodge and Myrek Lee-Fowlkes added 13 points each while Dimario Jackson tossed in 11 points for the Lions.

Six different players connected from three-point range for UAH (16-4 overall, 12-2 GSC). Brandon Roberts had a trio of three-pointers and led the team with 26 points.
