BULLDOGS PULL AWAY FROM UNA MEN

FLORENCE – Union shot 65.4 percent from the floor in the second half to pull away for a 97-76 win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Monday afternoon at Flowers Hall. With the loss, UNA falls to 7-6 overall and 2-5 in Gulf South Conference play.
 
The Bulldogs led 43-41 at the half and wasted little time taking control after the break. After a three-point basket by Dimario Jackson gave UNA a 48-47 lead early in the period, the Lions went 6:27 without another field goal. During the drought, Union used a 20-4 run to seize control.
 
Union was 7-for-8 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers during the run. A basket at the 11:22 mark gave the visitors a 67-52 lead. The Lions cut the deficit to 13 twice before another run by the Bulldogs stretched the lead to 20-plus, where it remained the rest of the way.
 
Charlie Wilson led all scorers with 30 points for Union, which improves to 9-5 overall and 4-4 in league action. The junior added 10 rebounds on the day. For the game, the Bulldogs shot 59.6 percent from the floor.
 
Four players reached double figures for North Alabama. Austin Timms scored 15 points to lead the Lions. Jackson added 14 points while Tavaras Tolliver tossed in 11 points on the day. Myrek Lee-Fowlkes rounded out the top scorers for UNA with 10 points.
 
UNA will play at Delta State on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on the DSU campus in Cleveland, Miss.
