LIONS TOP FISK 115-40 ON RECORD-BREAKING NIGHT

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team set a pair of school records and came close to several more in a 115-40 home victory over Fisk Monday evening at Flowers Hall. The win gives the Lions a 9-0 start to the season for the second straight year.

Five players reached double figures in scoring, including Emma Wallen's career-high 34-points. The 75-point margin of victory is the largest in school history, eclipsing a 120-49 win over West Alabama during the 1984 Gulf South Conference Tournament. UNA also set a new school record with 11 blocked shots. The previous mark of nine was also set against UWA during the 1997-98 campaign.

North Alabama used a fast start to take control early. The Lions opened the game on a 14-0 run and held Fisk scoreless until the 6:40 mark of the first quarter. UNA led 37-9 at the end of the opening period after a buzzer-beating fast break. Michaela DeKilder found Darby Madden for the score to give UNA the 28-point Lead.

The Lions led 66-17 at the half after outscoring the visitors 29-8 in the second quarter.

The lead continued to grow in the second half. A basket by DeKilder with 5:23 remaining in the third quarter capped an 18-0 run and gave the Lions an 84-23 lead. UNA led 95-30 heading into the final period.

A three-point basket by Ansley Eubank with 7:09 remaining gave UNA its second 100-point game of the season. The Lions added 15 more points down the stretch.

Eubank finished with 23 points on the night. For the second consecutive game, Ivy Wallen was one rebound shy of a triple-double. The sophomore finished with 18 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds. It was the sixth consecutive game with double digit assists.

Panetti added 18 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for the Lions. DeKilder rounded out the top performers with eight points and 13 rebounds on the night.

UNA will now return to Gulf South Conference play. The Lions host Shorter on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
