LIONS TOP SHORTER 94-44 TO IMPROVE TO 10-0

FLORENCE – Five players reached double digits in scoring as North Alabama defeated Shorter 94-44 Thursday in Gulf South Conference women's basketball action. The home win gives the Lions a 10-0 record on the season for the first time in program history. UNA also moves to 3-0 in GSC play.
 
Emma Wallen led the Lions with 25 points. UNA also got double-doubles from Ivy Wallen (15 points, 12 assists) and Michael DeKilder (11 points, 13 rebounds).
 
A 17-0 first-quarter run set the tone early for North Alabama. The Lions led 7-5 before holding Shorter scoreless for more than seven minutes. UNA led 24-7 at the end of the period.
 
The Hawks (2-6 overall, 0-3 GSC) got within 13 points early in the second quarter before another North Alabama run increased the lead. Five different players scored in the period as the Lions took a 46-20 lead into the half.
 
The lead continued to grow as UNA shot 60 percent from the floor over the final two quarters. The Lions played nine different players with everyone getting in on the scoring action.  Freshman Darby Madden scored a career-high 14 points to reach double figures for the second straight game. Brittany Panetti rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 12 points.
 
Ivy Wallen's 12 assists marked the seventh consecutive game to reach double digits in the category. The sophomore from Anderson now has 101 assists on the year and continues to lead the nation with a 10.1 per-game average.
 
UNA will host Lee on Dec. 18. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
