LIONS 7-0 AFTER 95-54 WIN AT MONTEVALLO

MONTEVALLO – Ivy Wallen scored a game-high 18 points and recorded her fourth double-double to lead the University of North Alabama women's basketball team to a 95-54 win at Montevallo on Saturday. The victory keeps the Lions perfect on the year at 7-0, including a 2-0 mark in Gulf South Conference play.
 
Wallen added 10 assists on the day to reach double digits in the category for the fourth straight game. She paced a balanced UNA attack that had nine different players scoring, including four in double figures.
 
Montevallo scored the first four points of the game before the Lions took control by scoring 20 of the next 24 points. Michaela DeKilder scored the first five points of the run. From there, six different UNA players had baskets as the Lions grabbed a 20-8 lead in the closing seconds of the first period.
 
A 21-9 advantage by North Alabama gave the Lions a 41-19 lead at the break. The Falcons could get no closer than 17 in the second half. A three-pointer at the 2:40 mark of the third quarter made the score 57-40 before UNA pulled away more.
 
UNA shot 57.6 percent from the floor in the second half as the lead continued to grow. Montevallo was 4-of-16 from the floor in the final period as the Lions put the game away with a 32-10 run in the quarter. Free throw shooting also helped North Alabama. The Lions were 21-of-24 for the day, including a perfect 15-of-15 showing in the second half.
 
Brittany Panetti added 17 points for UNA while DeKilder had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Emma Wallen tossed in 13 points for the Lions. Kiya Sain led Montevallo (2-6 overall, 0-2 GSC) with 14 points.
 
North Alabama will begin a four-game home stretch next Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Lane. After hosting Fisk on Dec. 11, the Lions will return to GSC play with home games against Shorter and Lee.
