UNA WOMEN TOP LANE TO IMPROVE TO 8-0

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team used a fast start before cruising to a 79-55 win over Lane College Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The win represents the second of the season over the Dragons and keeps the Lions undefeated at 8-0 on the year.
 
Emma Wallen scored a game-high 23 points while Ivy Wallen was only one rebound shy of a triple-double with 10 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds. The nation's assist leader extended her streak of double-digit assists showings to five straight games.
 
UNA raced out to a 25-5 lead in the opening quarter. Emma Wallen had 11 points while Ivy Wallen recorded six assists in the opening 10 minutes of play. The Lions led 37-25 at the break after shooting 43.2 percent from the floor and forcing 11 Lane turnovers.
 
North Alabama scored the first six points of the second half and the visitors never got closer than 16 points the rest of the way. Brittany Panetti and Michael DeKilder also added double-doubles for the Lions. Panetti scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds DeKilder added 10 points and 12 boards for UNA.
Ansley Eubank rounded out the top scorers for the Lions with 10 points.
 
UNA was able to dominate fast break points (21-6) and points off turnovers (21-9). The Lions, however, struggled at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-31 attempts.
 
UNA will return to action Monday night against Fisk. Tip-off for the single game is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
