FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama managed just four hits and helped Auburn-Montgomery's offensive effort with eight walks and two hit batters as the Lions dropped a 7-1 decision to the Warhawks at Mike Lane Field.
With the loss, UNA is now 16-10 overall. AUM improves to 11-13.
North Alabama took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
T.J. Lockett was hit-by-pitch and
Davis Elliott followed with a walk. After a double-steal, Lockett scored on a sacrifice fly by
Brandt Holland.
UNA starter
Lane Wallace pitched two scoreless inning and
Jonathan Cook pitched a scoreless third before allowing four runs on three hits and two errors in the fourth inning. AUM then added a single run in the fifth inning off
Dylan Stewart to extend the lead to 5-1.
AUM starter Wade Bannister (3-3) was pulled in the second inning and Hank Scott came on to silence UNA's bats as he retired the first 10 batters that he faced and allowed just two hits over five innings to get the win.
The Warhawks added two insurance runs in the eighth inning off Garrey Gillum to make the final count 7-1.
Cook (0-1) too the loss for UNA, allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits over two innings. He walked one and struckout one.
For AUM, Garrett Deloney allowed just one hit over two and two-thirds innings and William Gibson came on to record the final out.
Davis Elliott had four of UNA's hits with
Drake Tucker and
Peyton Sockwell contributing one each.
North Alabama will play a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Delta State Saturday and sunday before returning home to host Miles in a double-header at Mike Lane Field on Tuesday, March 28 at 2 p.m.
