UNA FINISHES SOFTBALL SWEEP AT DELTA STATE

Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss., – A four-run fifth inning propelled the University of North Alabama softball team to a 5-1 road victory over Delta State on Sunday. The win capped the Lions' second consecutive three-game Gulf South Conference sweep as UNA improves to 22-10 overall and 12-6 in GSC play.

UNA entered the fifth inning tied at 1-1 before sending eight batters to the plate and scoring four runs off five hits. The Lions loaded the bases with three straight singles before Shelby Woodard's triple to left center drove in three runs. The hit gave North Alabama a 4-1 lead and chased DSU starter Bailie Springfield from the circle.

Woodard later scored on Reagan Tittle's sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 5-1.

Hillary Carpenter closed out the win by pitching the final four innings to improve to 12-4 on the season. She combined with starter Raven Cole to hold the Lady Statesmen to a single run off four hits. Each pitcher allowed two hits.

After DSU scored first with a single run in the bottom of the first inning, the Lions answered in the top of the fourth. Woodard led off the frame with a single and was sacrificed to second base before scoring on Hannah Shollenberger's RBI-single up the middle.

For the game, Shollenberger was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Woodard was also 3-for-4 with a trio of RBI while Destiny Wright added a 2-for-4 showing at the plate. UNA totaled 11 hits on the day.

The Lions will return next weekend for a three-game GSC series against UAH. The two teams will play a double-header at 2 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping up the series with a single game at 1 p.m. the following day.
