FLORENCE, Ala. -- A
Kyle Hubbuch single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the University of North Alabama a 2-1 walk-off win over Montevallo at Mike Lane Field.
The game was tied at 1-1 in the fourth inning and remained tied until the bottom of the ninth as each team left numerous runners on base. The UNA rally started in the ninth inning when
Logan Carter singled, and advanced to second on an error.
T.J. Lockett followed with a sacrifice bunt and also reached on an error as Carter went to third. After an intentional walk to
Davis Elliott loaded the bases,
Drake Tucker hit into a fielder's choice and Carter was forced out at home. Hubbuch then followed with the game-winning hit through the right side to score Lockett.
With the win, North Alabama improved to 24-15 overall, while Montevallo falls to 22-19.
UNA scored the game's first run in the third inning as Lockett reached on an error and later scored after three straight walks. A walk to Hubbuch with the bases loaded scored the run.
Montevallo tied the game in the fourth with a solo home run by Caleb Ledbetter off UNA starter
Shane Priest.
Priest pitched a string six and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
Jonathan Cook followed with two-thirds of an inning, as did
Dylan Stewart.
Bradley Bailey (3-4) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning with two striekouts and got the win.
North Alabama travels to Union on Friday for a three-game Gulf South Conference series against the Buccaneers.
