SOFTBALL RALLIES FOR 3-2 WIN OVER UAH

FLORENCE – Reagan Tittle's RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored the winning run to give the University of North Alabama softball team a 3-2 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday in the Gulf South Conference series finale between the two teams. The win gives UNA a 23-12 overall record with a 13-8 mark in GSC play.

Trailing 1-0 throughout most of the contest, the Lions rallied with single runs on three different occasions to extend the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Marissa Hancock connected on a two-out single through the left side to score Bailey Nelson from third to tie the game at 1-1.

After UAH regained the lead with a single run in the top of the seventh, UNA rallied again. A one-out single by Hannah Shollenberger brought Amy Carden to the plate. The senior doubled to left center, scoring pinch runner Lexie Norfleet from first base to tie the game once again.

The Chargers failed to score in the top of the eighth to set the stage for the comeback victory. Pinch hitter Katie Parr worked the count full before getting hit by a pitch to reach base and chase UAH starter Tyler Harrison from the circle. UAH got an out on a fielder's choice before a double by Hancock put runners at second and third for Tittle.

The junior hit a 1-1 pitch down the left field line to score Sanders from third and give UNA the win.

Hancock and Tittle had two hits each for the Lions. Hannah Bodenhorn scattered six UAH hits over eight innings to get the complete-game victory in the circle. The sophomore from Mt. Juliet, Tenn., walked six and struck out three to improve to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The win was also the 350th career victory for UNA head coach Ashley Cozart. In her fourth season at UNA, she is also 159-51 with the Lions.

UNA will hit the road for its next two GSC series. The Lions will play three-game series at Mississippi College and Union before returning home to face Christian Brothers on April 22.
