FLORENCE, Ala. -- A trio of University of North Alabama pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout of Trevecca Nazarene at Mike Lane Field as the Lions picked up a 4-0 non-conference victory.
UNA starter
Shane Priest (2-1) threw five scoreless and hitless innings to open the game, walking four and striking out eight.
Bradley Bailey followed with three scoreless innings but the Trojans broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle by Chandler Miller to leadoff the eighth.
Channing Wall then retired all three batters that he faced in the ninth.
North Alabama took a 2-0 lead in the third inning without a hit.
Ben Cooley and
T.J. Lockett both walked. Cooley had moved up on a wild pitch and when Lockett stole second, an errant throw to third went out of play, allowing both runners to score.
The Lions added a single run in the fourth when
Peyton Sockwell double and stole third as Peyton Thomas was walked. Sockwell then scored on a double-steal attempt as Thomas got himself into a run-down to draw the throw.
UNA's final run came on a solo home run by
Kyle Hubbuch in the the sixth inning. It was Hubbuch's eighth home run of the season.
UNA finished with just two hits but was aided by six walks and two Trevecca errors.
North Alabama, now 21-14 overall, plays at Mississippi College this weekend in a three-game Gulf South Conference series.
