STETSON HOLDS ON FOR 3-1 WIN OVER UNA VOLLEYBALL

FLORENCE – A late rally fell just short for the University of North Alabama volleyball team as the Lions dropped a 3-1 decision to Stetson Friday at Flowers Hall. With three matches remaining in the season, UNA is still seeking its first-ever win in ASUN Conference play. The 18-25, 14-25, 25-19, 21-25 loss leaves the Lions with a 2-20 overall record and 0-13 mark in league action.
 
After falling in the first two sets, the Lions won the third set before coming up short in the final frame. Three players reached double digits in kills, including Madison Ruble's match-high 17 on the night. The senior from Annapolis, Mo., added three blocks and a .438 hitting percentage for the match.
 
Malaisia Stallworth also hit .333 on the night with 12 kills and three blocks, while Christina Ellwanger added 10 kills for North Alabama. Jayden Davila-McClary turned in a double-double with 48 assists and 19 digs.
 
Defensively, Genesis Benítez led the way with 28 digs. Emma Ellis (14 digs) and Catie Ladner (12 digs) also reached double figures in the category.
 
Julie Varga led Stetson (15-10 overall, 7-6 ASUN) with 14 kills and 13 digs.
 
UNA will host Jacksonville on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
