UNF TOPS LIONS 3-1 IN VOLLEYBALL SEASON FINALE

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., – After dropping the opening set, North Florida rallied to post three straight victories in a 23-25, 28-26, 25-18, 26-24 victory Friday night in ASUN Conference volleyball action. The season-ending loss gives UNA a 4-21 overall record in its first NCAA Division I season.
 
The Lions had a chance to extend the match before letting a late lead slip away in the final let. The Ospreys, however, overcame a 20-16 deficit to get the win and improve to 10-21 on the year. North Alabama ends the season with a 4-14 record in ASUN play after winning two of its final three matches.
 
UNA trailed throughout the opening set before rallying for a win. The Lions trailed 13-9 before using a 6-1 run to grab their first lead. Stephanie Wilke and Madison Ruble teamed up for back-to-back blocks to give North Alabama a 15-14 lead. UNF regained a 23-22 advantage before the Lions closed the set with three straight points to get the win.
 
The second set also remained close throughout as neither team led by more than two points. UNA had one set points and the Ospreys had three before pulling out the 28-26 victory.
 
North Florida had its best set of the match in the third frame. The Ospreys hit .265 in the game and held UNA to a .000 showing.
 
Sophia Brandstetter led North Alabama with 14 kills and 12 digs on the night. Ruble and Joice Maldonado also reached double figures with 10 kills each. Jayden Davila-McClary added 40 assists for the Lions, and just missed a double-double with nine digs.
 
Defensively, Genesis Benítez led the way with a match-high 26 digs. Cadie Ladner also reached double figures in the category with 16 digs for UNA.
