UNA IMPLEMENTS CLEAR BAG POLICY AT BRALY STADIUM

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama is implementing a clear bag policy for all home football games at Braly Stadium. The policy, which begins in the fall of 2018, will limit the size and types of bags that may be brought in by fans.

In the interest of public safety and to significantly expedite entry into the stadium, the implementation of the policy is intended to enhance public safety while minimizing time spent searching bags at the gates.

The University strongly encourages all fans not to bring unauthorized types of bags (bags, purses, backpacks, etc.) to Braly Stadium. Beginning this fall, fans will only be able to carry the following style and size of bag, package, or container into the stadium:
  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 12" x 6" (Official UNA logo plastic tote bags will be available for sale at the ticket for $5. Bags will also be sold at the UNA ticket office after Sept. 1).
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bags or similar).
  • Small "clutch" purses, no larger than 4 1/2" by 6 1/2", with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium in addition to the approved clear plastic bags.
  • Seat cushions with no pockets.
  • Small diaper bags with the accompaniment of a child.

BAGS WILL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL UNA SPORTSMANS CLUB MEMBERS.

Spectators also will be able to carry other items allowed into the stadium such as binoculars, cameras, and smart phones, but their cases will not be allowed. Working personnel, including accredited news media, will continue to enter the stadium through designated gates where they could be subject to screening and bag inspections of the same manner as in the past.

Clear Bag Policy FAQ

Why did North Alabama adopt this policy?
The University of North Alabama continues to review its policies to enhance public safety and improve efficiencies as it relates to all home athletics venues. The fan experience and the safety of our guests is a top priority for us. Limiting the size and style of bags carried into Braly Stadium will aid in maintaining a safe and secure environment, decrease the time waiting to enter the stadium, and improve the overall game day experience. This measure will enhance safety both inside and outside of the stadium.

How does the new policy improve public safety?
A clear bag is easily and quickly searched, thus allowing staff to be more efficient and effective in checking bags that are brought into the stadium.  This initiative also supports the Department of Homeland Security's "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign.

Are other Universities/Venues limiting bags?
Yes. More and more universities and athletic venues are adopting the NFL's Clear Bag Policy.

How does this expedite my entry into the venue?
This policy enables us to move fans through our gates much faster.. It will make the stadium security team's job much easier, allowing staff to be more efficient and effective in checking bags at point of entry. There will be less time spent standing in lines at the stadium gates and fans will be able to be in their seats well before kickoff.

How many bags can each person bring into the stadium?
Each ticketed guest can carry one large clear bag – either a one-gallon Ziploc-style bag or the 12" x 12" x 6" clear bag – plus a small clutch purse (4.5" x 6.5"). The small clutch must be carried into the venue outside the clear bag and is still subject to search.

What happens if I arrive to Braly Stadium and do not have a clear bag?
Fans carrying bags that do not meet the criteria will not be admitted to the venue. They may return their bag to their car or purchase a clear bag in order to transfer their belongings before entering the stadium. Transferring items to a venue-provided bag requires disposal of the non-approved bag, unless it fits into the clear bag.
