LION TENNIS FALLS AT JACKSONVILLE STATE

JACKSONVILLE – After winning two of the three doubles matches to grab an early lead on Wednesday, host Jacksonville State won five of the next six matches in singles play to secure a 6-1 victory over the University of North Alabama men's tennis team. With the loss, UNA falls to 0-8 on the season.
 
JSU (7-0) posted victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the overall 1-0 lead. At No. 2 doubles, Andreas Hansen and Oscar Meslin raced out to an early lead and played solid at the end for a 6-3 victory.
 
Hansen used the momentum from the doubles win to get a quick start to singles play. Playing at the No. 4 position, the junior from Soenderborg, Denmark won the first  set 6-1. Trailing 2-4 in the second set, Hansen regained control and won four straight games for a convincing 6-1, 6-4 win. 
 
The Gamecocks posted straight-set victories in the other five matches to clinch the win.
 
"Andy has definitely put in the work over the last couple of weeks, and you could see that today," said UNA head tennis coach Brice Bishop. "I continue to see positives from this team.  We are just not putting it together on big points."
 
The UNA men host Troy Friday in the team's home opener. Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the UNA Varsity Tennis Courts.
