LIONS DROP THREE MATCHES AT FAU BEACH BASH

BOCA RATON, Fla., – The University of North Alabama beach volleyball team came up short in each of its three matches at the Florida Atlantic Beach Bash over the weekend. After dropping a 3-2 decision to Tampa on Friday, the Lions lost 4-1 to No. 16 FAU and 5-0 to No. 7 Florida International the following day.
 
Against Tampa, the Lions scored points at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions. The Spartans, who are also receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 rankings, were able to clinch the match with a 22-20, 21-18 win at the No. 2 spot.
 
Host FAU was able to win four of the five matches against UNA on Saturday. Paula Klemperer and Sophia Brandstetter recorded the lone point for the Lions, rallying for an 18-21, 21-16, 15-8 victory at the top position.
 
Seventh-ranked FIU used a fast start to win all five matches in the final contest on Saturday. Four of the five matches were straight sets victories. Klemperer and Brandstetter forced a tiebreaker after posting a 21-15 win in the second set. The duo, however, fell 15-8 in the final frame.
 
North Alabama is now 3-5 on the season and will play two more matches in Lakeland, Fla. The Lions will take on Lincoln Memorial at 1 p.m. and Florida Southern at 4 p.m. Monday on FSC campus.
