UNA QUALIFIES FOR ASUN BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNEY

FLORENCE – North Alabama's inaugural beach volleyball team has qualified for the 2019 ASUN Conference championships and will open play Thursday, April 18, in DeLand, Fla. UNA will the No. 6 seed and will play third-seeded Florida Gulf Coast at 9:30 a.m. (Central) in the first round of the double-elimination event.

UNA finished the regular season with a 10-10 record, including a 4-4 mark in ASUN play. Two-time defending league champion Stetson is the top seed and will host the ASUN tourney at the Cooper Beach Courts. FGCU is 14-9 overall with a 4-4 ASUN record.

"I could not be more proud of this group of young women," said UNA beach volleyball coach Bob White. They overcame many obstacles and earned the chance to play in Florida and represent UNA. I love that we were able to take a group of past/current indoor and beach players who had never played together before and advance to the ASUN championships in our first year as a Division I beach volleyball program."

The winner of the UNA/FGCU match will face No. 2 seed North Florida at 2 p.m. on Thursday. The loser will play at 10 a.m. on Friday in an elimination game.
