LIONS END BEACH VOLLEYBALL SEASON AT ASUN TOURNEY

DELAND, Fla., – Coastal Carolina posted wins at No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1 to record a 3-0 win over the University of North Alabama beach volleyball team Friday morning in an elimination game of the 2019 ASUN Tournament. With the loss, UNA ends its first-ever beach season with a 10-12 record.
 
All three matches were close. After a 21-16, 21-16 win at No. 5 and a 21-15, 21-19 victory at No. 3, the Chanticleers were within a point of clinching with the No. 1's on the sand.
 
UNA's Sophia Brandstetter and Paula Klemperer took the early lead with a 21-19 win before CCU rallied. A 21-18 Coastal Carolina win in the second set extended the match before the CCU team of Sydney Alvis and Leah Hardeman held on for the 18-16 victory. It was the third meeting of the season for the two top duos with all three matches going to three sets that included extra points in the final frame.
 
Brandstetter and Klemperer, both freshmen, finished the season with a 15-7 record. All 22 matches came at the No. 1 position.
