WALLEN, COULSON LEAD UNA WOMEN TO 68-57 WIN OVER STETSON

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama women's basketball team got a game-high 17 points from Ivy Wallen and a double-double from Kenysha Coulson in a 68-57 ASUN Conference win over Stetson Monday evening at Flowers Hall. The victory gives UNA a 14-4 overall record and 5-1 mark in league action.

The Lions never trailed after opening the game with a three-pointer by Coulson, who finished with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. The Lions led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter and stretched the lead to double-digits before settling in on a 30-22 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Stetson twice overcame double-digit deficit to pull to within a single possession. UNA answered each time.

After two free throws by Brittany Panetti put North Alabama ahead 34-24 midway through the third quarter, the Hatters responded with an 8-1 run. The Lions went 5:10 without a field goal until a basket by Panetti made the score 37-32 with 4:17 remaining.

Stetson closed to within a single point near the end of the period before a 9-0 run by the Lions stretched the lead back to 10 points. Wallen scored seven straight points, including a basket and free throw during the run. A pair of free throws by Coulson made the score 48-38 in the final minute of play.

The Hatters got a basket and the end of the quarter, but UNA opened the fourth period on an 11-3 run to take control. A three-point play by Coulson capped the run and put the Lions ahead 59-43 at the 6:42 mark.

Stetson made one last push, closing the gap to 63-57 with 3:28 remaining. A putback by Coulson and two more free throws by Wallen, however, put the game out of reach.

Olivia Noah added 11 points for North Alabama. Wallen also dished out seven assists.  Kennedi Colclough led Stetson (7-11 overall, 1-4 ASUN) with 16 points.

UNA will play at Kennesaw State on Jan. 27. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (Central) at the KSU Convention Center.
