FLORENCE, Ala. -- Four University of North Alabama errors led to two unearned runs and UNA batters struckout 17 times as the Lions dropped a season opening baseball game to Ohio University, 5-1 at Mike Lane Field.
UNA trailed 3-0 after three innings, despite having allowed just one hit. The Lions closed the gap to 3-1 with a run on the fifth as Reid SIngewald singled and scored on a
Kevin Brenning RBI-single. Ohio responded with two more runs in the eighth inning, including a solo home run from Spencer Harbert.
UNA left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth without scoring a run and stranded 12 total runners in the game.
Hunter Davidson (0-1) took the loss for UNA, despite allowing just three hits over five and a third innings. He walekd two and struckout five.
Garret Gillum pitched the final two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
UNA's seven hits came from just three batters as
Reid Homan had three and Singewald and Brenning had two each. The remainder of UNA's lineup was a combined 0-for-21.
The Lions and Bobcats will play a double-header Saturday beginning at 1 p.m, at Mike Lane Field.
