FLORENCE, Ala. -- The University of North Alabama rallied from a 6-1 deficit to score two late runs but couldn't overtake Ohio as the Bobcats held on for a 6-4 win over the Lions in the final game of a four-game series at Mike Lane Field.
Ohio took three of the four games over the Lions to open the 2020 season.
Ohio got a run in the first inning on a walk, a balk and an RBI-single.
UNA took the lead with a two-run third inning as
Tate Mathis walked,
Reid Homan was hit-by-pitch ,
Ben Kiefer drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and
Colt Chrestman squeezed in a run with a sacrifice bunt.
The Bobcats scored four runs in a wild third inning on a combination of four hits, two errors, two walks and a balk.
A solo run in the sixth extended Ohio's lead to 6-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, UNA's Grayson got a leadoff double and he scored on a Mathis RBI-double. The Lions then had two runners on with no outs but stranded them.
In the eighth,
Gerardo Miranda singled with two outs and scored on another Throneberry double, to make it 6-4.
Keegan Foge (0-1) took the loss for UNA in his first start after making 29 appearances from the bullpen last season. He allowed five runs on four hits over four and a third innings. He walked three and struckout four.
Kyle Moore pitched three and two-thirds innings and gave up a run on two hits.
Cosi Scinta pitched a third of an inning and allowed one hit and
Bryant Claunch retired the only two batters that he faced.
North Alabama, now 1-3, plays at Alabama A&M on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
