LIONS FALL TO HATTERS 69-60

DELAND, Fla., – North Alabama made just one field goal over the final 5:31 of playing time and Stetson closed the game on a 15-4 run to come away with a 69-60 home win over the Lions Monday evening in ASUN Conference women's basketball action. The second straight loss leaves the Lions with a 17-8 record on the season and shrinks the lead for second place in the league standings to a half game with three games remaining in the regular season.
 
At 8-5 in conference play, UNA narrowly leads third-place Jacksonville (7-5). The two teams split the home-and-home series with each team posting a home victory. JU has four games remaining.
 
On Monday, North Alabama led Stetson by a single point at the half and held a 56-54 advantage after two free throws by Emma Wallen with 5:32 remaining. The Hatters tied the game with a basket on the ensuing possession, then got a defensive stop and took the lead with a three-pointer at the 4:17 mark.
 
A driving layup by Wallen cut the deficit to a single point, but the Lions would not connect from the floor again. Stetson scored four straight points and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
 
For the game, UNA shot 39.5 percent from the floor and struggled from three-point range. The Lions were just 6-of-23 from long range, including a 2-for-8 showing in the second half.
 
Wallen, who played all 40 minutes in the game, led all scorers with 24 points. Brittany Panetti added 10 points for North Alabama.
 
Stetson (11-14 overall, 5-7 ASUN) held a 34-22 rebounding advantage and scored 16 second-chance points. The Hatters added 38 points in the paint, with Day'Neshia Banks leading the way with 19 points on the night.
 
UNA will host Kennesaw State on Monday, Feb. 24. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
