FLORENCE, Ala. --
Harley Stokes hit a three-run home run and
Sidney Revels and
Michelle Moore combined on a three-hit shutout as the University of North Alabama rolled to a 6-0 win over Southern University at the Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium.
North Alabama, now 16-7, got two runs in the third inning and then sent nine batters to the plate in a four-run fifth inning to pad its advantage.
In the third inning,
Lexie Harper and
Meleah Hargett singled and
Emma Latham singled in Harper for the first run of the game. A sacrifice fly by Stokes drove in Hargett to make it 2-0.
Southern, now 4-11, had its only scoring opportunity in the fourth inning with runners on second and third and just one out but Destiny Hernandez flied out to left field and UNA's Harper gunned down Andriana Rincon at the plate as she tried to tag on the play.
With one out in the fifth inning, Latham walked and
Hannah Shollenberger singled. Stokes then ripped her fifth home run of the season to make it 5-0. Danielle de Ruitter then made it back-to-back homers with her second of the season to make it 6-0.
Revels (4-0) got the win, pitching five complete innings, allowing no runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Moore pitched two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts.
UNA out-hit Southern 10 to three, led by
Georgia Land and
Katie Eakes with two each.
North Alabama will play in the Samford Classic on Saturday and Sunday in Birmingham.
