LION ATHLETICS RECORDS HIGHEST RECORDED DEPARTMENT GPA

FLORENCE – Student-athletes at the University of North Alabama have combined for a department grade point average of 3.29 for the 2020 Spring semester, marking the highest average on record at the school.

In the midst of much adversity that included the COVID-19 outbreak, the closing of in-person classrooms and distance learning mandates, the department posted a GPA above a 3.00 for the ninth consecutive term and 10th of the previous 11 semesters. UNA totaled 60 student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA.

"Our student-athletes faced many challenges in the move to remote learning this semester," said Sherry Kennemer, coordinator of athletics compliance and advising. "Regardless of the adversity, they continued to take their academics seriously and performed very well. We are extremely proud of their dedication and performance in classroom this semester."

Of the 286 total student-athletes at UNA, 213 also posted at least a 3.0 GPA, while 12 of the 14 varsity sports earned a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. The UNA volleyball team had the highest team GPA for the spring with a 3.86 mark.
