COMEBACK FALLS SHORT FOR UNA WOMEN AGAINST OSPREYS

FLORENCE – A frantic second-half comeback came up just short Saturday afternoon as the University of North Alabama women's basketball team dropped a 68-63 home game to North Florida. With the loss, UNA falls to 5-11 overall and 4-3 in ASUN Conference play.

On Saturday, the Lions were down by double digits throughout most of the contest and trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half. A 15-2 run over the final 3:01, however, made it a one-possession game before the Ospreys sank two free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

North Florida led 61-41 with 7:33 to play and later held a 66-48 advantage with just over three minutes remaining. Alexis Callins started the UNA run with five straight points.

After a basket by Jaida Bond cut the deficit to 66-55, the Lions got a steal and Jaila Roberts converted a three-point play with a basket and free throw at the 1:10 mark.

Another defensive stop by UNA then set up Macy Lee's layup on the ensuing possession to make the score 66-60 in the final minute. UNA used full-court pressure on the inbounds play and forced a traveling call with 32.7 seconds remaining. Olivia Noah then connected on a three-pointer from the right wing to force a UNF timeout.

Nursing the 66-63 lead, UNF's Marissa Mackins drew a foul and hit both free throws to extend the lead to five points. The Lions were unable to score again.

UNA shot 37.9 percent from the floor and was 9-of-27 from three-point range. The Lions trailed 37-21 at the half.

Bond just missed a career-high with 25 points on the day. The sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn., added 12 rebounds to record game-high totals in both categories. Roberts and Lee also finished with 10 points each for UNA while Sakyia White just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Rhetta Moore led North Florida (7-7 overall, 5-2 ASUN) with 16 points.

The same two teams will play again Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
