IONA USES BIG SECOND HALF TO DOWN UNA MEN

ORLANDO, Fla., – Iona remained undefeated, including a perfect 2-0 showing at the ASUN/MAAC Challenge with an 81-65 win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Saturday evening at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The loss leaves UNA with a 1-3 record on the season while the Gaels improve to 5-0 on the year.
 
UNA trailed just 38-35 at the break, but managed just seven field goals over the final 20 minutes. Iona started the second half on a 14-3 run and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
 
The Gaels began to pull away by getting hot from three-point range, connecting on 9-of-14 attempts. UNA, meanwhile, struggled from long range, going 2-for-16 from beyond the arc. 
 
Four players reached double figures for the Gaels, who also held a 43-34 rebounding advantage on the night.
 
Jamari Blackmon and Daniel Ortiz scored 11 points each to lead North Alabama.
 
UNA will host Oakwood in its home opener on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
