UNA MEN FALL TO BELLARMINE

FLORENCE – Bellarmine opened the game on an 16-3 run and never looked back during an 87-63 win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team Saturday evening at Flowers Hall. The win keeps the Knights in first place in the ASUN standings with a 10-2 conference record while the fifth straight loss puts UNA in fifth place at 6-6 league action.
 
After falling behind by 13 early in the game, UNA (10-8) was able to cut the deficit to nine. Back-to-back three-point baskets by Detalian Brown made the score 18-9 at the 14:12 mark. Bellarmine, however, answered with a trey on the ensuing possession and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the night.
 
The Knights (13-5) led 41-29 with 4:44 remaining when an 8-0 spurt pushed the lead to 20 in less than two minutes. A three-pointer in the final minute gave the visitors a 54-31 lead at the break.
 
The lead continued to grow in the second half. Another trey made the score 65-35 at the 14:57 mark. The largest lead of the night came with 5:47 left when a basket put Bellarmine ahead 81-49.
 
UNA finished the night with 27 turnovers, including 15 in the first half. The Lions were called for nine offensive fouls on the night. The miscues led to 42 Bellarmine points.
 
Brown led North Alabama with career-high 22 points. Emanuel Littles added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions. Dylan Penn led four Bellarmine players in double figures with 17 points.
 
UNA will play two games at Liberty Feb. 19-20.
