UNA MEN DOWN AUSTIN PEAY 6-1 FOR FIRST WIN

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, getting a 6-1 home win over Austin Peay. The win gives the Lions a 1-7 record on the season.
 
After claiming the doubles point, UNA notched victories in five of the six singles matches to secure the overall win.
 
Cade Reason gave North Alabama a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles. ASPU closed the gap to 2-1 with a win at No. 5 before Guiherme Diniz posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot to put the Lions on the cusp of victory.
 
Kyle Johnson clinched the match by rallying to win at No. 2 singles. The freshman from Gauteng, South Africa dropped the opening set 6-3 before posting 6-2 and 6-4 victories to give UNA the win.
 
Jamie Bixby (6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5) and Carlos Matarredona (6-0, 6-7 (5), 7-5 at No. 1) wrapped up the scoring for the Lions.
 
The UNA men will play at UAB on Thursday. Match time is set for 2 p.m. in Birmingham.
