LIONS DROP 7-4 DECISION TO BELLARMINE

FLORENCE, Ala. -- North Alabama made five errors that contributed to five unearned runs as Bellarmine claimed a 7-4 win over the Lions at Mike Lane Field in the second game of an ASUN Conference baseball series.

The Knights had 13 hits on the day and UNA errors contributed to runs in the second, third and ninth innings.

With the loss, UNA is now 5-31 overall and 4-13 in the ASUN Conference. Bellarmine is 11-24 overall and 6-12 in league play.

North Alabama took a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning as Drew Hudson got a leadoff single, sent to second on a throwing error and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Bellarmine scored two runs in the second inning and added four more in the third for a 6-1 advantage.

Will Haberstock came on in relief of starter Chase Best and held the Knights scoreless in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and Brycen Parrish stopped them in the seventh and eighth innings.

UNA, meanwhile, crept back in to the game with single runs in fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull within two.

In the fourth, Kylan Barnett singled and scored on a Reid Homan double. Homan was thrown out at third trying to extend it to a triple. It was his first of three hits on the day.

In the fifth, Hudson singled, went to second on a balk and scored on Barnett's RBI-single.

In the sixth, Harris Kain reached on a Bellarmine error and scored on a Kevin Brenning RBI-single.

Bellarmine added an insurance run in the ninth after UNA misplayed a base hit in the outfield, making it 7-4.

Bellarmine's Reece Davis retired the Lions in order in the bottom of the ninth.

Best (1-8), took the loss for UNA. He allowed six runs on seven hits over three innings of work. Only two of the runs were earned.

The Lions and Knights play the final game of the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
