LAFAYETTE, La. -- Louisiana scored at least one run in seven of its eight innings at the plate and held North Alabama scoreless until the ninth inning as the Ragin Cajuns downed the Lions 11-1 at M. L.Tigue Moore Field at Russo Park in the opener of a three-game series.
UNA, now 7-36 overall, managed just seven base runners in the game and Louisiana slowly pulled away with single runs in the first, second, third and fourth innings. After being held scoreless in the fifth, the Ragin Cajuns scored three in the sixth, one in the seventh and three more in the eighth for the 11-0 advantage.
Louisiana, now 24-20, had 17 hits in the game and left 13 runners on base.
UNA's six hits in the game came off the bats of six different batters.
The Lions lone run came in the ninth inning as
Ben Kiefer struckout but reached base on a wild pitch. He then scored on
Landon Langston's triple.
North Alabama starter
Hunter Davidson (2-6) took the loss for the Lions, allowing a run on two hits in his one inning of work.
Austin Emener,
Garret Gillum,
Austin Nichols and
Keegan Foge also pitched in the game for the Lions.
The Lions and Ragin Cajuns play again on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00.
