OFFENSIVE WOES PLAGUE UNA WOMEN IN LOSS TO STETSON

FLORENCE – Stetson shot 46 percent from the floor and held the University of North Alabama women's basketball team to its lowest point total in more than six years during a 75-43 win over the Lions Saturday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for UNA and leaves the team with a 7-9 overall record and 2-2 mark in ASUN Conference play.

UNA struggled to find offense throughout the game, connecting on just 13 shots from the floor. The Lions did not have a player reach double figures in scoring.

A 1-for-13 first-quarter showing resulted in a double-digit deficit late in the opening period. Jade Moore hit two free throws to give the Lions an early 2-0 lead. Stetson, however, responded with a 15-3 run to take a 10-point lead. Patrycja Jaworska added two more free throws and the home team trailed 15-7 after one quarter of play.

The Hatters took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Lions 18-9 to extend the lead. After Stetson grabbed a 19-point advantage, a basket by Reagan Hune in the closing minute made the score 33-16 at the half.

The Stetson lead grew over the final two quarters. After the Hatters took a 22-point lead, Hune connected from three-point range to make the score 49-30 with 2:15 remaining in the quarter. UNA missed its next four shots from the floor as the visitors closed the period on a 7-3 spurt.

UNA could get no closer than 25 points in the final period.

For the game, Stetson held a commanding 47-28 rebounding advantage, outscored the Lions 28-12 in the paint and produced 14 second-chance points. The visitors also converted 16 UNA turnovers into 17 points.

Julia Strachan led the Lions with nine points. Yazz Wazeerud-Din led Stetson (9-10 overall, 2-4 ASUN) with a game-high 18 points.

UNA will play at Central Arkansas Monday in a rescheduled game. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Farris Center on the UCA campus in Conway, Ark.
