UNA FALLS TO LIBERTY IN ASUN TITLE GAME REMATCH

LYNCHBURG, Va., – Liberty remained undefeated in ASUN Conference play with a 72-53 home win over the University of North Alabama men's basketball team on Thursday. With the loss, UNA falls to 8-12 on the season and 1-6 in league games.
 
In a rematch of the 2021 ASUN Tournament Championship Game, the Flames took control midway through the first half. After a basket by Detalian Brown tied the score at 11-11, the home team grabbed a double-digit lead with a 17-4 run.
 
The Lions were 4-of-16 from the floor with three turnovers down the stretch until a three-point basket by Jamari with eight seconds remaining made the score 35-24 at the break.
 
In the second half, the Liberty lead reached 14 with 10:42 to play before a 10-0 UNA run pulled the Lions within striking distance. Daniel Ortiz scored eight of the 10 points during the spurt, including a three-pointer to prompt a timeout by the Flames with the score 51-47 at the 7:57 mark.
 
The Lions, however, would not hit another shot from the floor for nearly seven minutes as the home team closed the game on a 21-6 run.
 
C.J. Brim led UNA with 14 points. Blackmon finished 11 points for the Lions. ASUN leading scorer Darius McGhee led Liberty (14-6 overall, 5-0 ASUN) with a game-high 18 points.
 
UNA will play at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. (CST) at the KSU Convocation Center in Kennesaw, Ga.
