LYNCHBURG, Va., – After grabbing the lead late in the first half, Liberty held off the University of North Alabama women's basketball team over the final two quarters for a 75-63 home win on Thursday. With the loss, UNA falls to 7-11 on the season, including a 2-4 mark in ASUN Conference play.

The Lions connected on six three-point baskets in the first quarter and held a 23-17 lead after the opening period. Another trey by Macey Lee early in the second quarter gave UNA its largest lead at 26-19 with 7:51 remaining.

The Flames, however, were able to close the half on a 22-11 run. A three-pointer at the 1:10 mark put the home team ahead 39-37 and a putback in the final minute gave Liberty a four-point lead at the break.

UNA could get no closer than four in the second half. A basket by Skyler Gill cut the deficit to 45-41 with 7:47 remaining in the third quarter. Consecutive jumpers by the Flames pushed the lead to eight before Julia Strachan connected from three-point range to make the score 49-44.

Liberty pushed the lead to 11 before the Lions got two free throws by Lee and a putback by Gill to make the score 57-50 in the final minute of the quarter. The Flames answered with a basket in the closing seconds.

The Lions were only 3-of-12 from the floor in the final period. A basket at the 8:02 mark put Liberty ahead 64-54 and the lead remained double digits the rest of the way. A 9-0 run gave the home team its largest lead at 71-54 midway through the fourth quarter.

UNA responded with a basket by Hina Suzuki. Two free throws by Patrycja Jaworska later made the deficit to 12, but the Lions ran out of time.
