KENNESAW STATE DOWNS UNA WOMEN

KENNESAW, Ga., – Kennesaw State grabbed the lead with a 12-0 run to start the second quarter and the University of North Alabama women's basketball team could never pull even Saturday in a 63-50 road loss. The fourth straight defeat leaves UNA with a 7-12 overall record, including a 2-5 mark in ASUN Conference play.

North Alabama led 12-10 after the opening frame. The Lions, however, went scoreless for the first 4:14 of the second quarter, turning the ball over twice and missing their first seven shots from floor.

After a basket by the Owls gave the home team a 22-12 lead, a jumper by Patrycja Jaworska cut the deficit to eight with 5:13 remaining. Baskets by Hina Suzuki and Reagan Hune made the score 22-18 and the two teams traded scores down the stretch. KSU led 26-22 at the half.

UNA could get no closer in the final two quarters. KSU started the third quarter with a 6-0 run to stretch the lead back to double digits. The Lions got within seven on a three-point basket by Julia Strachan at the 5:07 mark.

The Owls responded with another 7-0 spurt, holding UNA scoreless until a basket by Macey Lee in the closing minute of the quarter made the score 45-33.

The Lions cut the deficit to 45-38 early in the fourth quarter, but went another 4:15 without a field goal as the home team pulled away.

Kennesaw State finished with a 44-34 rebounding advantage, including 18 on the offensive end that led to 16 second-chance points. For the game, UNA shot 29 percent from the floor, connecting on just 4-of-25 attempts from three-point range.

Strachan hit all four treys for the Lions and finished with a team-high 16 points. Jaworska added 15 points on the day.
